Civil Engineer Technician

General Overview

Lanc & Tully is seeking a Civil Engineer Technician to work on our Municipal and Land Development Teams.

Your role would be to assist in the design of both local and regional municipal and land development projects while building meaningful internal and external professional relationships. Project work will be completed collaboratively with other professionals, contractors, various jurisdictions, and regulatory agencies.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Prepare sketches, drawings, site plans, grading plans, and utility layouts and profiles.
  • Perform minor design calculations and details for various infrastructure and construction projects.
  • Work under the supervision of senior staff to produce quality designs and plans, and interpreting plans from other engineering related disciplines (survey, utility, etc.)
  • Collaborate with engineers and managers or construction teams and provide adjustments and revisions as necessary.
  • Prepare quantity take-offs and construction cost estimates.
  • Perform and witness soil testing for the design of septic systems and stormwater facilities.
  • Site visits to verify existing conditions and construction progress.
  • Perform inspection of soil & erosion control on project sites.

Qualifications

  • Associate’s degree in Engineering or proficient in Civil 3D.
  • Proficiency with Civil 3D/AutoCAD preferred.
  • Proficiency with various stormwater management software platforms, such as HydroCAD, preferred.
  • Ability to work as a part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office business software, including Word, Excel, and Outlook
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Self-motivated, engaged, team-oriented, and strategic thinker.
  • A valid clean driver’s license.
  • Ability to lift and/or move 50 lbs., and move around on jobsite, including ascending or descending the terrain, preferred.

Lanc & Tully is seeking a Civil Engineer/Project Manager to work on our Municipal and Land Development Teams.

Your role would be to design both local and regional municipal and land development projects while building meaningful internal and external professional relationships. Project work will be completed collaboratively with other professionals, contractors, various jurisdictions, and regulatory agencies.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Knowledge of stormwater management, grading, designing utilities & roads, erosion and sediment control, and associated fields.
  • Preparation of Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plans (SWPPP’s) and reports.
  • Perform civil engineering design calculations and details for various infrastructure and construction projects.
  • Prepare profiles and cross-sections using surveys to represent elevations, topographical contours, and proposed structures.
  • Prepare sketches, drawings, details, written specifications, and other presentation formats to ensure accuracy and conformity with the specified design.
  • Prepare and submit permit applications to various government agencies.
  • Interpret plans from other engineering related disciplines (architectural, electrical, plumbing, mechanical, etc.)
  • Prepare quantity take-offs and construction cost estimates.
  • Review subdivision and land development plans and generate review comments.
  • Attend after-hours municipal meetings as consultant to municipal client or private landowner/developer.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering.
  • Five (5) to ten (10) years experience in civil or environmental engineering design.
  • New York Professional Engineer’s (PE) License preferred.
  • Proficiency with Civil 3D preferred.
  • Proficiency with various stormwater management software platforms, such as HydroCAD, preferred.
  • Ability to work independently, and as a part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office business software, including Word, Excel, and Outlook
  • Strong ability to multi-task and manage multiple projects at a time.

Construction Observer

Lanc & Tully, a multi-discipline engineering and surveying firm, is seeking Construction Observers for upcoming and on-going private and municipal projects in Orange, Dutchess, Sullivan, Ulster and Rockland County areas. Our professional engineers, engineering technicians and construction observers oversee project construction from pre-construction through finalization. Seeking detail oriented, upbeat, positive, ambitious personnel.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Observe, document, and verify the work and the daily activities of the project to ensure compliance with the plans and technical specifications for roadway, infrastructure and utility (water, sewer and stormwater) construction, and stormwater erosion & sediment control.
  • Document the amount and type of work completed by the contractor on a daily basis.
  • Document that the contractor is using the approved products and materials and the quantity of each material used.
  • Take measurements to prepare sketches for work completed on a daily basis.
  • Document the equipment and labor used by the contractor.
  • Document and report deviations and non-compliance with the scope of work and plans.
  • Provide sufficient observation and documentation so the Engineer of Record can certify that the work has been completed in general conformance with the approved construction documents.
  • Ensure proper testing is being conducted as necessary.
  • Perform project recordkeeping for preparation of a certification report to include daily reports, test results, manufacturer’s certification, destructive and nondestructive testing.
  • Perform and witness soil testing for the design of septic systems and stormwater facilities.

Requirements:

  • Minimum high school diploma or equivalent. Associate degree in civil technology or a related field is a plus.
  • Relevant work experience is preferred.
  • Have strong communication skills, both verbal and written, and the ability to effectively communicate with colleagues, contractors, supervisors, and clients.
  • A self-motivated problem solver.
  • A valid clean driver’s license and personal vehicle to travel to and within project site, as regular daily travel is required.

Survey Tech

Lanc & Tully is hiring a full time Survey Tech. The Survey Technician will assist the Project Manager with daily surveying tasks in the field and/or office. New and varied assignments may be made frequently requiring flexibility in travel, self- directed learning skills and heightened social interaction.  Seeking detail oriented, upbeat, positive, ambitious personnel.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Must be proficient with the set-up and operate of instrumentation required for the collection or layout of survey data in the field (includes RTK/GPS, robotic total stations, controllers/data collectors and automatic levels). Advanced knowledge of the calibration of survey equipment on a regular basis.
  • Has advanced knowledge in the operation of controllers or data collectors including control initialization, GPS OPUS techniques, layout techniques (centerline and offset staking), curve staking intersections, radial stake out and basic error analysis.
  • Transmits survey data to the proper files in the computer network and be able to acquire the data for field use. Able to send data to the office from remote locations.
  • Must be proficient at reading plans and calculate centerlines, stationing, horizontal and vertical curve data, utility locations curb & gutter and curb returns.
  • Perform construction staking activities including slope staking, utility offsets, streets and commercial lots.
  • Is able to read survey plats and legal descriptions. Is experienced in the location of existing property corners.
  • Prepare neat written field notes and daily records.
  • Knowledge of survey safety and standard practices, per the LANC & TULLY Safety Manual.

Requirements:

  • High School Diploma/GED required.
  • Three years of experience in the surveying industry a plus.
  • Valid driver’s license.

Office Assistant

Lanc & Tully, a multi-discipline engineering and surveying firm, is seeking office assistance primarily in the print room, with various tasks, as outlined below.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Filing
  • Copying and Scanning
  • Data entry
  • Deliveries and pickups/errands in the Hudson Valley area including Orange, Sullivan, Rockland and Dutchess County, New York areas.  Mileage is reimbursed monthly at the federal mileage rate.
  • Occasional office telephone coverage and word processing (reports, letters, etc.)
  • Ability to lift and/or move 30 to 40 lbs.
  • Dependable work vehicle required and valid driver’s license
